Invisible Leashes: Coercive Control Mechanics
Episode 12 - Coercive control isn’t “just conflict.” It’s a pattern that shrinks a spouse’s world through isolation, surveillance, financial restriction, rules and micro-regulation, gaslighting, threats, and even spiritual distortion. Psalm 9:9 says, “The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed,” and Isaiah 1:17 says, “Seek justice, correct oppression.” Proverbs 31:8–9 says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.” Paul says in Ephesians 5:25, “Husbands, love your wives… and gave himself up for her,” and Peter says in 1 Peter 3:7, “Live with your wives in an understanding way… showing honor.” In this episode we name the mechanics, describe how they feel on the ground (fear, isolation, self-doubt), and outline first steps toward clarity and safety. If you’re unsure where your situation lands—or you need a safe, gospel-anchored plan—reach out to BLC. If you’re in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
