Psalm 91:1–2
My Refuge and My Fortress
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.” (ESV)
Safe Harbor, a ministry of the Biblical Living Center, is seeking Christian families, churches, and organizations willing to provide safe, temporary accommodation for women and children navigating abusive or destructive relationships.
Whether for a few nights, several weeks, or an extended period, your willingness to open your home or make suitable space available could provide someone with the safety and stability they desperately need.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We invite applications from individuals, families, churches, and organizations who:
Have suitable space available for short-term, transitional, or longer-term stays.
Demonstrate Christian maturity, compassion, discretion, and a heart for serving vulnerable women and children.
Can provide a safe, welcoming environment that respects privacy, dignity, and personal boundaries.
Are willing to work with the Safe Harbor team and follow established screening, safety, and care guidelines.
Types of Spaces We Are Looking For
Safe Harbor welcomes applications from Christian individuals, families, churches, and organizations willing to make suitable accommodations available for women and children navigating abusive or destructive relationships.
Spaces may include:
Private Rooms: A spare bedroom within a family home for short-term or extended stays.
Basement Apartments or Suites: Self-contained living spaces offering greater independence and privacy.
Guesthouses or Secondary Residences: Separate accommodations on a family's property.
Vacant Homes or Apartments: Furnished properties available for temporary or transitional housing.
Church-Owned Properties: Parsonages, apartments, or other suitable residential spaces made available by churches or ministries.
Vacation Homes or Cottages: Properties available seasonally or during periods when they are not otherwise occupied.
Other Creative Possibilities: Any safe, suitable residential space that could provide temporary refuge.
Every space matters. Whether you can offer a room for a few nights or a private residence for several months, your generosity could make a meaningful difference.
All accommodations are subject to an application, safety assessment, and approval process. Offering a space does not obligate you to accept every placement.
Our goal is not simply to find available rooms, but to establish safe places of refuge where women and children can experience dignity, stability, and compassionate Christian care. circumstances.
Speak with a Safe Care Consultant
Opening your home or making a space available is a meaningful decision, and we understand you may have questions. Our Safe Care Consultants are available to discuss the vision of Safe Harbor, explain how the ministry works, and help you prayerfully consider whether participating is right for you.
Whether you are an individual, family, church, or organization, we would welcome the opportunity to hear from you, discuss your circumstances, and explore how you might become part of this growing network of refuge and care.
There is no obligation or commitment in having a conversation. Our desire is to help you make an informed and prayerful decision.
Complementing the Important Work of Local Shelters
We recognize and deeply value the essential work of local shelters and organizations serving women and children experiencing domestic abuse. Safe Harbor is not intended to replace these vital services, but to complement them.
The need for safe accommodations is great, and existing shelters often face significant demands on their resources and capacity. Through Safe Harbor, we hope to expand the network of available refuge by connecting carefully screened Christian families, churches, and organizations with women and children who need a safe place to stay.
Our desire is to work alongside existing services, offering additional options for temporary and transitional housing, while extending compassionate, Christ-centered care to those navigating difficult and often uncertain circumstances.
Help Make Safe Harbor Possible
Safe Harbor exists to provide women with counsel, community, practical safety support, and access to trusted places of refuge. Much of this care depends on the generosity of those who believe women facing abuse should not have to walk through it alone.
If the Lord has given you the ability to help, we invite you to prayerfully consider whether supporting Safe Harbor may be one way He is leading you to participate in this work.
Your support can help make counseling more accessible, strengthen our group care, develop and vet Safe Harbor locations, provide practical resources, and extend care to women who may have very limited financial options.
There is no pressure in this invitation. We simply ask you to consider the need, pray, and respond as the Lord leads.
The Great Commission Foundation provides the charitable giving framework through which pledges and donations designated for Safe Harbor can be received and stewarded in support of this ministry.
