Known, Not Cast Out: Jesus and the Wound of Rejection
Episode 14 — Known, Not Cast Out: Jesus and the Wound of Rejection
Rejection can feel like a bitter shot—sharp and lingering. I share my story of my dad leaving when I was two, and how God met me in the ache. John 6:37 says, “Whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” Psalm 27:10 says, “Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will take me in.” Ephesians 1:5 says, He “predestined us for adoption.” Psalm 34:18 says, “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted.” Isaiah 49:16 says, “I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” Romans 8:38–39 says, nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ. The insecurities may still sting, but Jesus gives us a truer belonging and a place to run.

This week’s question:
“Why does rejection still hurt me so much—even as a Christian? What can I do in the moment?”
Pain doesn’t vanish at conversion; it gets companioned. Psalm 34:18 says, “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted.” Hebrews 13:5 says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 1 John 3:1 says, “See what kind of love the Father has given… that we should be called children of God.” Romans 8:15–16 says, “You have received the Spirit of adoption… we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’” Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep your heart with all vigilance,” and Romans 12:18 says, “If possible… live peaceably with all.” Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another’s burdens.” In the moment: turn to Jesus, trade lies for truth of adoption, respond wisely (with boundaries if needed), and let community carry some weight.

This week’s practice: “From Rejection to Adoption”
Name the lie. Write one sentence rejection taught you (e.g., “I am discardable”).
Answer with truth. Next to it, write a Scripture answer (e.g., John 6:37 says, “I will never cast you out.” Psalm 27:10 says, “The LORD will take you in.” Ephesians 1:5 says, “Adopted.”).
Rehearse belonging. Each morning, speak your truth card aloud and pray, “Father, I receive this.”
Invite safe community. Share your card with a trusted friend; ask them to encourage and pray over you. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up.”
Bless out of comfort. Take one small act of compassion today. Colossians 3:12 says, “Put on then… compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.”
