Home: Untethered, Adopted, and Learning to Belong

Episode 16 — Home: Untethered, Adopted, and Learning to Belong

We explore the ache for home and the better belonging Jesus gives—now in His people and forever in His presence. Ephesians 1:5 says we are adopted through Christ. Ephesians 2:19 says we are no longer strangers but members of God’s household. John 14:2–3 says Jesus prepares a place for us. Hebrews 13:14 says we have no lasting city here, and Philippians 3:20 says our citizenship is in heaven. Psalm 68:6 says God sets the lonely in families.

Brian shares his story of feeling untethered, self-destructing, and then being called home by Jesus—reframing “home” as a Presence and a people, not just an address.

Sip Size Q&A:

Question: “I feel restless and homesick. Would moving fix it—or is something deeper going on?”

Often the ache is about Presence more than place. Hebrews 13:14 says we have no lasting city here; Philippians 3:20 says our citizenship is in heaven. Start by seeking Christ’s peace where you are, practicing belonging in His household (Ephesians 2:19). If, after prayer and wise counsel, a move is right, go sent—carry your church habits, serving posture, and adoption identity with you.

Counselor’s Corner — Practicing Home Here while Longing for Home There:

This week we’re learning how to live rooted and ready—rooted enough to build real belonging where God has planted us, and ready because our deepest home is with Jesus.

  • Rehearse adoption daily: Ephesians 1:5 and 1 John 3:1 say you belong—pray it in.

  • Plant at the table: Acts 2:46 says share meals with glad hearts—choose one regular table this week.

  • Serve where you’re planted: Galatians 6:10 says do good, especially to the household of faith.

  • Name the ache, aim it heavenward: Psalm 90:1 says the Lord is our dwelling place—turn restlessness into prayer.

  • Build small “home” habits: Colossians 3:14 says put on love—practice hospitality, shared walks, or a weekly prayer rhythm.

Don’t forget, at the Biblical Living Center, our team stand ready to serve you should you discern your need for a biblical counselor.
